What Is the Celtic Cross Spread?
The Celtic Cross is the ten-card spread for when one question is not enough. It maps the situation, the obstacle, the hidden root, and where it all resolves. Here is how it works and when to use it.
The Celtic Cross is the heaviest spread in common use, and the right tool when your question is less "what should I do" and more "what is actually going on". Ten cards, built to hold a situation from several angles at once.
The ten positions
It covers the situation itself, what crosses it, the foundation beneath it, the recent past leaving, the crown above, the near future arriving, your own stance, the environment around you, your hopes and fears, and the likely result where it all settles.
Why ten and not three
A three-card spread answers one clean question. The Celtic Cross holds a messy one. The extra positions are there to catch the things you left out of the question: the thing you are not naming, the thing you think you want that is actually a fear.
When to use it
Use it when the problem will not fit in three cards. When you have been turning something over for weeks and still cannot see the shape of it. When you suspect the question you are asking is not the question you have.
What it costs
It is the deepest reading on offer, and it is priced for that, with more cards, more positions, and three follow-up questions built in so you can push on whatever does not land. See the spreads and prices, or start a Celtic Cross reading if the question has been living with you for a while.
